Mentone Girls Grammar Head of Junior School - Gig Executive

Mentone Girls Grammar Head of Junior School, Director of Community Engagement

Fostering an integrated, holistic approach to teaching and learning

The Brief

Mentone Girls’ Grammar is an independent, Anglican school for girls catering for students from Early Learning Centre through to Year 12. The school emphasises a strong culture of learning and in addition to supporting the wellbeing of students, with an integrated curriculum that fosters friendships and peer support across Junior and Senior levels. Due to the resignation of the previous Head, Mentone Girls Grammar engaged Fisher Leadership to support them to appoint a contemporary educational leader. Mentone Girls’ Grammar sought a sophisticated candidate who demonstrated prior experience in a Junior School environment. It was essential the appointee presents as highly relatable with the ability to engage with staff, parents and students. It was also critical the appointee held a clear understanding of girls’ schools and the unique aspects of educating and supporting girls.

Solution Building

Fisher Leadership has an extensive network of known candidates and contacts in the Independent School sector, and over 50 targeted connections were made to identify appropriately qualified candidates. The search process was supported by print and online advertising. Due to the impact of COVID-19 Fisher Leadership managed a selection process of panel interviews via video conference, including a second round incorporating a candidate presentation. Final meetings with the preferred candidate were conducted on campus as ‘walking meetings’ ensuring social distancing requirements.

The Outcome

Ms Kellie Morgan commenced as the Head of Junior School in January 2021. Kellie is a highly trained and experienced primary level educator and leader who has gained her experience in a variety of settings across both independent and Department of Education schools. A highly engaging and dynamic professional, Kellie impressed the panel with her strategic approach and documented results.

Subsequent to the Head of Junior School appointment, Fisher Leadership conducted the process to appoint a Director of Community Engagement with a view to develop and drive a contemporary engagement agenda.
