Deputy Chief Health Officer
Global search for strategic clinical leadership and advice
The Brief
Fisher Leadership was engaged to undertake a comprehensive international and Australia-wide search to support the organisation to recruit a Deputy Chief Health Officer (DCHO) (Environmental). The DCHO is a senior clinical position providing authoritative advice and leadership to support the Chief Health Officer, Deputy Secretary and Secretary and staff.
Solution Building
An initial briefing with two senior leaders was followed by a briefing with the Deputy Secretary and Chief Health Officer. Project timelines were developed to meet the client’s requirements in addition to developing a full candidate information pack comprising the position description, selection criteria and relevant background information. A national print and online advertising campaign was coordinated to support an extensive, confidential international search process encompassing approaches to qualified individuals across Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Canada and the USA. Due to the specific nature and complexity of the position requirements there were only a small number of candidates that met the brief and Fisher Leadership presented full reports on three highly qualified candidates, including a candidate from the United Kingdom. Fisher Leadership coordinated all arrangements for the shortlist interviews, including a Skype interview for the UK based candidate. The UK candidate was identified as the preferred candidate and Fisher Leadership subsequently coordinated all further meetings, including a four-day visit, managing all negotiations between the client and the candidate.
The Outcome
The successful candidate commenced in March 2018. A senior health professional with a specialist registration in public health, highly regarded in the UK demonstrating that they are politically savvy, highly technical and across the social elements of the role. They held a broad range of experience at local, national and international level.
